Jan Guillou was awarded the 2014 Lenin Award with the following justification:
“In his long-running journalistic and literary work, Jan Guillou has persistently, purposefully, upstanding and always digging gone his own way. In the social debate he has disobediently and always opposed to the authorities handled – and handles – fundamental social issues, Swedish as well as international. Through his commitment, among another things against racism and xenophobia, he has reached a unique position in Sweden as a public educator and opinion maker. His great fictional works constantly attract new socially and historically interested, also less experienced, readers.”
